Several local excursions are possible. A dugout canoe trip on the local river is regularly praised both by birders and non-birders. The option also exists to go 'round the corner' in the river to have lunch in Senegal.

A visit to the Falonko sacred crocodile pond on Monday or Friday morning offers an opportunity to join the Kartong lady elders at their prayers and blessings.

Another popular excursion is to join a member of staff (by bicycle if you wish) to do a tour of Kartong village – possibly including a visit to a family compound. Bicycles are available to hire so you may also like to venture off on your own and enjoy the natural beauty of the countryside.

Across the road from Sandele is the Snake and Reptile Farm, a must for those who like - or who may be unsure of - these animals.

Other local destinations include the River Port, the Sea Port, Bee Keeping and the Women's Market Garden at Sifoe.

Destinations a little further afield (up to a 45 minute drive) include the market and craft village of Brikama, the fishing village of Tanji and the Kombo coastal resorts. We’re happy to provide more information on these upon your arrival.
